How Chelsea eventually eased to the Premier League title

Chelsea won the league title last night by beating West Brom 1-0 at The Hawthorns. In what seemed a tight game for most of the match, Chelsea’s most unlikely hero, Michy Batshuayi, came off the bench to score the winner and the only goal of the game to give the title to Chelsea with 2 games of the season to go.

While the win was only narrow, it did highlight Chelsea’s dominance in the League this season and their ability to grind games out. The win took them to 87 points, 10 points above 2nd place Spurs (who do have a game in hand) and while Tottenham where the only real challengers to the blues, it was always plain sailing for Antonio Conte’s men.

Chelsea won the league last night after a 1-0 win over West Brom.

After a fairly poor start to the season, including defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal, Conte decided to change tactics to 3 at the back and the club never looked back. A 13-game winning running helped cement Chelsea’s place at the top of the table and since the turn of the year, they haven’t been dethroned off the top spot.

Conte’s hard-working tactics have been a huge catalyst to winning the London side’s 5th Premier League title in 25 years. Star individuals such as Eden Hazard and N’golo Kante also helped to make Chelsea top dogs, with the latter winning the PFA Player of the year award.

Kante & Hazard where star players this year.

A mixture of strong defending also helped Chelsea show their winning mentality with the likes of David Luiz and Gary Cahill, who both made it into the PFA Team of the year. Belgian keeper, Thibaut Courtois also played his part this season between the sticks.

None of the other teams in the league even got close, apart from Tottenham. Big wins over top teams such as Spurs, Man City, Man United & Arsenal helped to show their superiority. While there may have been a few wobbles for the blues, they always recovered well and showed the fighting spirit all good champions posses.

Chelsea lost just 5 times this season in the league. 2-1 to Liverpool, 3-0 to Arsenal, 2-0 to Spurs, 2-1 to Crystal Palace & 2-0 to Manchester United.

Another important point is to highlight the manager. Conte has shown so much passion, hard-work and dedication over the season. No one realistically considered him for the title race at the beginning of the season but he has managed to prove the whole football world wrong in his first season in England.

Conte’s passion has been unbelievable at times this season.

While some fans may have preferred a closer contest in the title race this season, there is no denying that Chelsea have deserved this over every other team in the league and have been the best side in the league this season. even Jermaine Jenas would have to agree this time!
